What We Represent
At L’Occitane, we bring you the very best Provence has to offer, for beauty that is both radiant and unique. Every day we commit ourselves anew to preserving the region’s breathtaking natural environment, which never ceases to amaze.
A journey that begins in Provence…
The L’Occitane story began in the bustling markets of Provence. Armed with nothing but an alembic, a small truck, and an encyclopedic knowledge of plants, 23-year-old Olivier Baussan began distilling rosemary essential oil to sell at local market stalls. As his customer base steadily grew, Olivier decided to expand his product portfolio, adding soaps and creams while always taking inspiration from his native countryside as he brought natural beauty to homes all over the world.
Research & Innovation
Breaking New Ground
All L’Occitane research is guided by observation of the natural world, which we view as the key to developing effective natural cosmetics. L’Occitane invests considerable resources in developing innovative natural products through our specialist research laboratory in Manosque, right at the heart of the Haute-Provence region.
L’Occitane is dedicated to developing products that are increasingly respectful of both humanity and the world around us. We produce biodegradable refills, and most of our packaging is made with recycled materials, uses renewable resources, or is sourced from sustainably-managed forests. We constantly strive to minimize environmental pollution by limiting the use of air transport, promoting renewable energy use and, wherever possible, shipping our goods by sea, rail, or road. We encourage biodiversity through sustainable growing practices and ever-more natural formulas: 92% of the products we launched in 2016 contain at least 90% natural ingredients, while 57% contain over 95%.
